Art Alley NF

Are you staycationing this holiday weekend? Did a little day trip up to Niagara Falls and tried to explore some areas other than the *literal* Falls. One area I found? Third Street Art Alley which had some unique murals and even a piano! I did break out a rendition of “Heart and Soul” as well as attempted to remember the “Peanuts” theme song as those are the only piano songs I have memorized at this point... I’ve seen lots of ADK trips and lake pics - how did you spend the holiday weekend in New York?!

Someone took it upon themselves to write on the @artalleynf piano. At first I was upset... but then I realized it wasn’t graffiti. The keys were labeled with their Scientific Pitch Notation, and done correctly too! When I started this project three years ago I said “there will always be some teenager who’s going to draw something vulgar and vandalize things” but I can’t consider this vandalism. Why would someone label the SPN on a piano? Probably because they are learning. And how could I possibly be upset about that? Last night when a dear friend and I checked on the #StripedPiano in Art Alley there was an older gentleman, beautifully playing for a very long time. Classic, jazz, honkytonk. He’s been visiting this piano for the last three summers it has been in this spot. This passion project has been stressful and there have absolutely been times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel. . But then I hear of, meet and see people like this. . He doesn’t have a piano at home. He looks forward to my pianos on the street in the summertime to play. .
