Doing what I love most, sharing the love true music, ONE LOVE Sing for Hope Piano: Irish Pride Sing for Hope Piano Artist: Peggy Padovano Piano Location: Kilvlehan Park, Staten Island. About the Piano: The piano is dedicated to Irish immigration & to bring awareness to contributions made to the U.S. After being nearly starved out of existence during the Famine, millions fled to the U.S. where they worked hard & assimilated into our country. They were a huge workforce which built skyscrapers, railroad tracks, bridges & highways. They have a history of being civil servants with our bravest, boldest & strongest & fought for labor rights. Their contributions show how valuable immigrants are to our country. On the back of the piano I placed an excerpt of a poem written by Mair Geary which beautifully states, in part, “Through melancholy mists and harrowing storms, some survived the wretchedness of ocean crossing and mountain crossing, only to be scattered like raindrops upon thousands of valleys, where they learned to hope anew, paying tribute to their homeland in sweat and tears; toiling to the rhythm of their songs; whilst laying the foundations for the winding roads of your dreams. About the Artist: I have participated in Sing for Hope Piano’s since 2010 as an assistant to my husband. After assisting him for several years, I decided to do one of my own. About the Piano: We all live here together, was created in response to the 2016 election and its aftermath in our country, reflecting in our city. We have but one earth, all share this beautiful country, and reside in one of the greatest cities, New York. Together we need to overcome our differences and work towards a more enterprising future for all. The piano reflects a feeling of grittiness, a bit off kilter, the constant chaos of living here. All in a state of constant flux, ever-changing. The future feels a bit too close, and always in a state of evolution. About the Artist: Callie Hirsch is a lifelong visual artist, raised in Rockland County, NY, currently residing in Brooklyn. She became a city dweller in 1983, where she received her BFA from Parsons School of Design, followed by a Master’s degree from NYU. A recipient of the MTA Arts & Design commission, her artwork is on permanent view at 105 Beach Station in the Rockaways. Represented by Imago Galleries, in Palm Desert, CA.
