Days like this make every reason I dreamed all my life (still dreamin ;) of being an artist who has a life working in all types of creative endeavors, mediums, and with all types of creative spirits, be a living answer to the dream.... I was invited to teach a group of 14 prolific artist-teens, each of whom has won an opportunity to create an art piece/ installation at Lonsdale Quay, provided by the district of North Vancouver & "Studio In The City", to help teach them about "marketing" and social media, and work with them to create interactive components that will engage community, and see their art live in conversation & engagement beyond the piece itself. My favorite part was asking them the question that I& #x27;ve been asked (and tormented by;) my whole life in classes, conferences, executive meetings; "Tell me about your project and who it& #x27;s for and why, in one sentence!" .... This time I got to ask! Hearing their answers cracked my heart and mind and inspiration right open! It also let me see just how much artists & creatives benefit from diving into thinking clearly about what we artists might perceive as "the dark side" aka marketing. But how crystallizing the answers, in turn helps actualize the art itself~ not just for the sponsors/ audience... But sets solid foundations from which strong art can take shape... Also loved then throwing in the curveball of asking them to think about creating an entirely secondary interactive component with their piece - how we can leave people, audience, visitors, in a position to share, participate, post, buzz, and create change, for good, on planet earth, starting right here at home.... (And they thought they were just getting a Twitter lecture ;) I can& #x27;t WAIT to work with each of them to see their art engage community! ***But first, we paint pianos!!!!
