Live intentionally. Engage yourself. Engage others. Over the past few years, I’ve been questioning some of my life decisions pretty heavily. While I can sometimes be pretty critical of myself and I deal with a fair amount of negative self talk, I’m getting to a point where I’m learning to identify it, and affirm all that I’ve been able to accomplish despite all the barriers life has put in the way. From being sent to continuation school (woo DeWolf!) to graduating from @ucberkeley. From not having a home in high school to traveling the world playing music with some of my best friends. I’m learning to be grateful for what I have, despite having the urge to push always a little further. This photo is from my cross-country road trip earlier this summer, where I truly began to process much of this. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to give myself the space to begin processing my trauma, especially because it’s become a part of my daily life since. I sincerely hope you all have the opportunity to do the same. i just made a post like this on my personal account so i’ll try to keep it brief here but i’m very happy the piano lasted throughout the summer! thank you to everyone who came out to either see it in person or play it themselves. i have a lot of memories from visiting the piano and the park over the past two months and among my favorites was getting to hear someone play a cover of one more light on it the last time i visited. that was super cool. i still regret forgetting to write #pianointheparkspokane on the front tho but i tried to find and save as many posts of the piano as i could. i’m really glad i got to share something like this with more people than i could imagine. i don’t know how much longer it’ll be in the park so if you haven’t gotten to stop by please do! . . . . #myart #photos #spokane #piano

thoughts from the girl who designed the piano: i ran into tim and his wife trying to clean the piano after the first day of knc and he told me that the park rated the piano as one of the most visited attractions this summer! i’ve spent a lot of time inspecting the riverfront park location tag to find posts of the piano and each one i’ve found is so special. like art pieces are just indirect moments of connection between the artist and the viewer and this piano is a physical interpretation of that idea. i’ve also seen a lot of people visit the piano and play it: friends who came with me to see it, people i know that sent me pictures when they went to see it, and a lot of people i didn’t know who blew me away with their playing and were blown away when learning i designed it. the last time i saw the piano i got to hear someone play one more light on it and i actually almost cried. i remember during the whole process of bringing this to reality a big concern david had was the piano being vandalized. and of course that thought never went away and i hoped nothing bad would happen to it. i remember seeing comments online that were weary, comparing it to the community bikes that got thrown in the river and not expecting the piano to last long. that kinda sucked. but now at the end of august i’m just laughing that the gazebo of all things was removed because of vandalism but somehow the piano wasn’t. like..... ok i’ll take it! i hope this is the start of something positive for the park, for the city even. i don’t know how much longer the piano will be out there but thank you to everyone who went to see it. i’m beyond grateful i got to be apart of its debut summer run. #pianointheparkspokane 🎹
