Bashamishi Station

Remnants on the Wall The walls of Yokohama’s Bashamichi (�rriage Lane”) metro station are dotted with parts from the past. The relatively new station was designed to blend in seamlessly with the area’s nineteenth century Western style architectural streetscape. Situated a stone’s throw away is the city’s Red Brick Warehouse, a nineteenth century customs complex converted into a shopping, dining, and event space at the end of the last century, which is pictured in part here. Among the buried treasures in this underground station can be found a public piano. All are welcome to tickle its keys, and while it doesn’t appear to be a money making opportunity, the alcohol (for sanitizing purposes) is free.
