Pianists flocked from near and far to play the Herne Hill piano that evening. It was a joyous musical celebration and an example of the way that our piano brings people together. If you missed it, here& #x27;s another chance to watch this beautiful and touching film which will make you feel nostalgic for the sound of tinkling ivories outside Herne Hill Station.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣An all-star cast of both well-known and local musicians appear in this award winning documentary which looks at the profound effect the piano has on people in towns and cities. We meet characters whose lives have been brought together and changed by playing piano in public spaces. The film was in fact inspired by the Herne Hill piano and directed by Maureen Ni Fiann (her first film) who told us how she was getting on during lockdown.⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣‘During lockdown I’ve been enjoying playing a little electric piano. After finishing the film I decided I wanted to learn piano again and my jazz piano classes at Morley College went online - very handy! I absolutely love it though I am not that good! Making music is a total joy - some of those jazz chords are just so beautiful. In 2012 the wonderful @streetpianos donated a piano to the lucky community of Herne Hill as part of the & #x27;Play Me, I& #x27;m Yours& #x27; campaign. It& #x27;s located in the underpass of the train station and is looked after by locals. It attracts young people, old people, the talented and the not-so-talented, uplifting tunes and sad tunes, big crowds, small crowds. It& #x27;s inspired heaps of people to continue playing the piano, passers-by to stop and enjoy the music and it& #x27;s become a true focal point of the community.
