A few years ago the City of Calgary put out some pianos in public spaces downtown: a project that breathed music and joy into the streets when someone - anyone - sat down to play a tune. One day in the fall of 2016, my friend Stephanie and I walked around downtown to find some pianos and give them a whirl. Something not a lot of people know about me is I’m in love with the piano. The way it sounds, how it’s played, the incredible classical artists. Since I was a young girl, I would spend hours up in my room playing an electric keyboard trying to “recreate” famous artists like Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Frideric Handel, and so many more. Unfortunately, I never got to take lessons, but it’s been a dream of mine to play for so long! Tearing up as I write this but, Andre is the kinda man who’s soul is pure gold and he knew how much I wanted a piano so he was fully supportive when we found this sweet little upright from FB market place. It was weathered and worn, been all over Canada, and was just about perfect. It needed a little something to really fit into our home. We reached out to @interiorstoinspire to help our vision come true and they suggested Annie Sloan chalk paint! With some amazing guidance from Mel (an incredible local artist) we slowly transformed this old beauty into perfection ✨ (Swipe to see the before and after as well as some of the products up close) The entire process was honestly SO easy!! There was only two rules to follow really: 1. Don’t add too much water to your paint 2. Don’t add too much wax to your product! So a few brush strokes, a lot of dancing to Kiss, and some belly laughs later and voila!! We absolutely love it and our experience with @interiorstoinspire was so perfect! This was our first big piece refinished by ourselves and they helped us feel excited and confident! We have a bit more work to do yet. Finding the perfect stool, putting up a gallery wall above and placing our gorgeous hanging basket light too!
